Freeganism on Oprah

I just saw about this on Oprah. It sound very interesting. It's heartening to know that there are people out there that practice such an environmentally-friendly and non-wasteful thing.

When I saw the segment on Oprah, I was appalled by just how much perfectly edible food that stores throw away. The world is filled with starving and homeless people who could use those things. But rather than give it away for free to people who need or want it, they'd rather throw it in the trash and have it rot away in some landfill.

It's even worse when stores have those non-accessible dumpsters that you can only get to from inside the store so people can't "steal" what's in it. They'd really rather see it laid to waste than have it possibly make someone's life a little easier.

Freegans don't find just food. They find shampoo, sheets, rugs, personal care items, and furniture, all of which is still clean and usable.
